Our Aquatic Physical Therapy Program

We offer Aquatic Therapy at the Albany Aquatic Center, located at Albany High School at:

1311 Portland Ave, Albany, CA

Session Days:
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Session Times:
9:30am to 10:15am, 10:15am to 11:00am, 11:00am-11:45am, and 11:45am to 12:30pm

We are the leading authority in the East Bay area for Aquatic Therapy. Many doctors and therapists consider us to be the safest and most advanced pool facility in the area. We offer one of the few aquatic therapy programs that includes working with the therapist in the pool.

Aquatic therapy is a non-weight bearing rehabilitation that offers patients buoyancy for strengthening and worry free from falls. Swimming experience is not necessary for this type of therapy. PTI extends pool therapy services at a minimal cost to its patients once they are capable of exercising on their own.

Our aquatic physical therapy program is conducted in a heated pool that is 25 x 40 yards in length with deep and shallow ends for varying types of exercises. Our clinic utilizes aquatic therapy to optimize the rate of recovery, thereby saving time for the patient.

During the pool/aquatic therapy treatment, postural and /or neuromuscular education for the involved body part(s), and mechanical traction (which occurs naturally from the buoyancy of the physical property of water) is rendered. A variety of equipment is used for resistance or low weight bearing exercises to improve function and promote healing.

We get consistent positive feedback and great results from patients suffering from pre and post surgeries, arthritis, back pain, chronic pain, and any load sensitive injuries. The unique properties of the aquatic environment enhance interventions for patients/clients across the age span with musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and integumentary diseases, disorders, or conditions.

To get started, contact your doctor to see if Aquatic Physical Therapy is appropriate for your condition. Once your doctor has either given you a referral or faxed one to our office, please feel free to call and schedule your Initial Evaluation(on land) at any of our three office locations (El Cerrito, Oakland, Orinda), where we will then schedule your future Aquatic Physical Therapy sessions.
